We have prepared your tooth/teeth for a crown or bridge. Crowns and bridges usually take two to three appointments to complete. At the first visit, the teeth are prepared and a temporary crown or bridge is placed with cement while awaiting the final restoration. These restorations will serve you well for several years. They contain the finest and most up-to-date materials available today. However, you should be aware of the following information about these procedures:
POST-OP: Your tooth may feel sensitive to temperature, sweets, or biting. This is normal and should subside in a few days. If this sensitivity is severe and does not dissipate, please contact the office immediately for an evaluation. Do not eat anything sticky, hard or chewy as this may pull the temporary crown off or break it. Be careful brushing and avoid flossing adjacent to the temporary as this may cause it to become dislodged. Once the permanent restoration is placed, you may brush and floss normally. Should a temporary inadvertently come off, try to place it back on the tooth, and contact the office immediately to have it re-cemented. Your temporary may feel rough to your tongue. It may not be the same shape or color as the permanent restoration. You can feel confident that your new restoration is being made using state of-the-art materials by the finest laboratories and technicians.
PREVENTIVE PROCEDURES: Natural teeth can be broken with heavy force, such as chewing hard objects. As with natural unrestored teeth, avoid chewing excessively hard foods (hard candy, ice, corn nuts, bones, etc.) because the new crown or bridge can fracture with extreme force. If breakage occurs, contact us as soon as possible for a repair or replacement. To provide optimum longevity for your restoration and to prevent future dental decay and supporting tissue breakdown, please use the following preventive procedure:
- Brush and floss after eating and before bedtime
-Use an anti-cavity mouth rinse daily. The best time is immediately before bedtime
-Keep up to date your dental cleanings and x-ray needs
We have done our best to provide you with the finest quality oral restorations available today. However, as with a fine automobile or watch, only your continuing care and concern can assure optimum service longevity.
Thank you!
